HERE IS THE STORY ON THIS BIKE
My friend bought this Yamaha from his grandfather in March
of 2006 the bike was on the road last spring/summer then gramp's got ill and could not ride it ,my understanding
is gramp's was the original owner of this bike he bought
it at a Yamaha dealer in Manchester Ohio new , and it seems he took good care of it over the years and claims Midway
Yamaha in Manchester Ohio did all scheduled tune ups and have addressed any recalls Yamaha had on this year/model.
The problem with the bike when my friend got it in March was from sitting for almost a year in the
garage , the brakes had issues.
In March of 2006 my friend and I went to pick it up , the battery was dead so we replaced it . removed
all the spark plugs and put some oil in the heads " so we didnt start it on dry cylenders" turned it over by hand awhile to
work the oil around the pistons.
Replaced the plugs and with out much else the bike started right up , it ran rough and the starter
was making a hell of a noise when engaged.
My friend did replace the spark plugs but I am pretty sure they are not the exact ones for the bike
" he ran to AutoZone and bought spark plugs"..
After the new plugs we drained and refilled all the fluids anti-freeze,oil,gas,...
The bike was running and ready to go, My frined drive it from his grandfather's house to my house
about 35 to 40 miles give or take, I followed him and he was happy with how the bike ran no problem on the way to my house
except the brakes ,, the rear caliper was stiff and the rear resivoir was leaking brake fluid ,, the two front calipers were
working good enough to use as the only brakes the bike had for the ride home but they were also leaking fluid around the seals..
Anyway we got the bike to my house , I let him store it here and use my garage to do what ever he
needed to do to the bike.. fix/paint up the bike so he could ride it this summer (he was supposed to have it out of here by
July),, well he has worked on the bike replaced several parts and it is currently sitting how he left it with the front tire/wheel
off and all the plastic off the bike waiting to be sanded/fixxed and painted.
Now the bike has been in my garage for the last 5 or 6 months and taking up space, now
my friend has taken a job out of state and moved , he left me the bike signed over the title to my name and told me to get
what I could out of it ..
THINGS WORTH A MENTION :
I PUT THE BIKE BACK TOGETHER SINCE I FIRST POSTED THIS SEE
PICTURES 8.9.2006 FOR CURRENT STATUS OF BIKE
As far as I know it needs all 3 calipers and brake pad or at least the calipers rebuilt , I have
all 3 calipers , plastic fixxed painted and put back together, There is/was a problem with the fuse box , everything
worked on the ride home , headlight , blinkers, tail light , brake light , from what I saw the fuse box held the old glass
type fuses and it was in pretty bad shape , the fuses loosing contact and so on , the plastic inserts that held the fuses
into the fuse panel had broke off due to age , I do know my friend took the fuse panel out and re-wired fusable links into
it , I didn't help him with that and wasn't around when he did it , there is a wire or two not hooked up , if it needs to
be hooked to something I dont know ?? could be extra wire from the missing radio and or C.B. I do know I turn the key, choke
it and hit the button it starts up..
(THERE IS A PICTURE HERE OF THE FUSES ON ONE OF THESE PAGES, SHOWING HOW
HE LEFT IT)
If I remember right he told me all the wiring went good but he had not wired up the head light ,,"
that was the last word I got on the wiring " He did fix the wiring before he started taking the bike apart and after
he was done with the wiring he did ride the bike around here on the farm for awhile ,, thats another thing besides the ride
home on this bike , we got a 50+ acre farm we live on while he was working on getting this bike running he was all the time
taking it out of the garage and riding all over the farm to check his work ..
